Reverting Nasal Congestion
With a Buteyko Breathing Course
What is nasal congestion?
Nasal congestion is the blockage of the nasal passages usually due to membranes lining the nose becoming swollen from inflamed blood vessels.
Cause of nasal congestion
Considering Buteyko theory, nasal congestion occurs when:
- You are breathing too much.
- Your body attempts to limit overbreathing by restricting your airways.
- It enlarges membranes in the nose by swelling blood vessels there, restricting nasal breathing.
Overbreathing is generally a bad habit, and depending on your genetics, your body may have a natural defense mechanism against it. One of the defenses against overbreathing is to swell membranes in the nose, resticting the nasal passages to restrict overbreathing. In serious cases the membranes can become swollen so much that you have no choice but to start breathing from the mouth, and start overbreathing more than before and further complicating the problem of overbreathing.
Revert nasal congestion with a Buteyko Breathing course
Reverting nasal congestion with a Buteyko Breathing course can be either a quick or slow process. Good results can be attained within 2 weeks to 3 months, depending on the presence of viruses / long-term infections in the nasal area. Results are dependent on:
- Severity of symptoms
- Students' compliance to instructions and guidance
- Students' level of practice (basic, intermediate or advanced)
- Frequency of sessions for additional guidance
- Other factors (for example: age, general state of health, other diseases and activities.)
Doing both modules of our Buteyko Breathing course, and keeping in touch with us over the course of their practice, students can experience solid results after 2 weeks to 3 months of advanced Buteyko practice. As students make progress, they will experience gradual progress in symptoms and need less medications.
